I got really drawn into this story. It was a little low to start but most books are so stick with it. At first I thought this story would be mostly about Julia and was drawn into her character but these books are so much more and it turns out that Julia is the main character but not the main story. As the title of the series says, these books are about Devan and there are many story lines that Mark explores. The time period setting can be compared to a King Arthur style of culture with regards to technology, culture, and of course magic. There are power struggles between the many competing factions for power. The character Julia is a main stay throughout the tale and I enjoyed reading about her, but it took me awhile to realize that these books aren't really about her but instead are about all of Devan. The surprise for me was that the books do not end with the trilogy and in fact after reading the forth book I wouldn't be surprised that will be at least two more books coming to complete the tale. Dragons are mentioned as a possibility in the first three books and become a reality in the forth book but only briefly. I am sure there is more to come about dragons in the next books and I am also certain that Julia will play a part with the dragons. Oh, and of course the dragons can talk.Product details

An awesome entrancing series about coming to realize a new dream and taking on new responsibilities. Also building a new life and re-building a world. Very addictive.
Really loved the book. Can't wait for the next installment. The characters were very interesting and easy to follow. Julia should be very good in the next book.
As with all of Mark Coopers work the characters are believable and multidimensional it is easy to commissar ate with or loath them as the case may be. Settings are vividly described you can really put yourself in the scene. I highly recommend Devan Chronicles it's a great read my a master of his craft.
Starts out very interesting then gets muddy. Many grammatical errors that get similar words confused like "passed" and "past" and many others. Update upgraded to 4 stars after second read. Would like to see another novel
Grippng reading, full of action, expected as well as unexpected action. Interesting was the different characters each one with their own dreams, ambitions and failures. There were slso the beliefs of the clans that their way of fighting were the best way. In the end they followed Julia's advice and at last succeeded. I enjoyed reading this series, csn't wait to read next books.
Because this is an epic fantasy, it is hard to keep track of the characters. A new book involves a new set of characters plus the old characters from previous books. It is hard to keep track of main characters because you do not know which characters are the main set and the plot becomes hard to follow. In books 3 and 4, the general becomes a central antagonist but when he is first introduced, he seems to be a minor character.
With problems. It's difficult to keep track of the story when 3 or 4 run and jump from one to another. Some characters and settings are well-developed and others not so much. MANY messed up words such as bare when it should be bear, strait instead of straight, etc ad nauseam. This writer desperately needs a good proofreader and editor!!
